The life of a sailor is a life at sea – the spray of the sea on your face, the wind at your back. Sailors are always moving – whether they’re running from something, to somewhere, or just seeing where life and the sea takes them.
Life doesn’t always seem to work out that way, though. The crew of the Rebecca have learned that the hard way. On the 40th night of their 60-day voyage, something – something big – hit their hull hard. Several of the crew either fell or were pulled out of the ship into the dark depths, never to be seen again. In the confusion, a lantern was broken and set the ship ablaze. Any man that could be spared fought that fire, as the captain did the only thing he could – he ran the ship aground on Torath-Ka.
Typically, only a mad man would dare set foot on the Savage Land… that place is home to everything that could kill a man easy, along with the savage red men – the Ugaks. Captain Abraham had no choice, though; he couldn’t let his men drown, or burn. As soon as the ship was beached, he gave his orders. Totorakin, Vincent and the Doreen were to scout about and search for food while the remaining 20 souls salvaged the ship. He wouldn’t say it, but the Captain expected to be here for a long time.
Totorakin, at home in the water, looked for nearby fishing spots while Vincent looked for animal tracks at the treeline. While there were obviously fish in the water, they felt that they would have better luck tracking whatever reptiles made the tracks that Vincent found.
The jungles of Torath-Ka are hot, and muggy, though a welcome alternative to death at sea. Vincent lead Totorakin and the Doreen, Bloop, through the jungle. After a few hours, they hear rustling not far from them. As they stop to listen more closely, it’s obvious that something is moving toward them. Vincent dives for cover, Totorakin prepares his magic, and Bloop readies his sword.
Out of the foliage jump 5 man-sized lizards, who all run straight at Bloop who easily parries their claws and bites. They seem hungry, and fight wildly. Bloop keeps most of them busy while Totorakin conjures a plume of fire, incinerating at least one of them. One of these yellow-backed lizards charges Totorakin, and nearly kills him; though the Doreen is able to help. After 4 of them are killed, the last runs off.
Totorakin hears running water nearby, and convinces the others to drag the bodies over there. Vincent and Bloop skin the beasts while Totorakin goes for a swim. About an hour later, he rises from the water free from harm, and explains to the others for the first time that he can control not only the element of Fire, but Water as well.
The estimate that these lizards will provide about 40 man-days of food and decide to head back to the wreck, certain that the captain will be pleased. As they approached the shore, they were met by six red men – Ugaks. These men put up quite a fight – nearly taking out Bloop. However, they were no match for the trio, especially when Totorakin started slinging bolts of Fire.
After the red men were dispatched, they continued to the wreckage. As it came into view, they were presented with a brutal battleground – bodies and pools of blood surrounded the remains of the Rebecca, now burned to the waterline.
